License Fee! As of July 1, 2009, individuals recreationally fishing from shore (beach, bank, private dock, free public pier, etc.) and those recreationally shrimping and crabbing will be required to have a saltwater recreational fishing license. (This does NOT apply to the Fishing Piers listed below where the fee is included in your admission fee, nor does it apply to Fishing Charters in the Grand Strand.) When are the fish running? The most common fish caught off the coast of Myrtle Beach are black sea bass, snapper, grouper, larger sea bass, trigger, dolphin, wahoo, and king makerel.
Grand Strand Piers:
Apache Campground Pier, Lake Arrowhead Road, Myrtle Beach. Prices: $2 for pier parking. Walking on the pier $1, (12 years and under Free); Fishing pass $8.50, (12 years and under $4); Fishing rod rental for $20.65 which includes fishing pass and bait, if you rent a rod you'll have to leave $35 deposit.Discounts apply Ask about discounts for guests of Apache Campground. Cherry Grove Beach Pier, 3500 N. Ocean Blvd., North Myrtle Beach. Daily.Prices: $1.00 a person to walk. With your own rod, a one day fishing pass is $7 for the first rod, and $6.50 for each additional rod. The Pier is open 6AM-2AM, 7 days a week during June, July and August. They are closed for the months of December and January. All the other months open Sunday till Thursday 6AM-10PM, Friday and Saturday 6AM til midnight. Fishing rod rentals are $20 before 3PM and $10 after 3PM (with a $50.00 deposit), and include your 1 day fishing pass. Crab Nets are $6.50 per net per day. Cherry Grove Fishing Pier, 3500 N. Myrtle Beach State Park Pier, lies three miles south of Myrtle Beach on U.S. 17. Prices: Free to walk on pier with paid park admission; Fishing pass $4.50; Rod $4 plus $20 deposit. 14 Ave. Pier (links to web cam) 1304 N. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach. It's located in the Myrtle Beach downtown area, along with a restaurant of the same name. FREE to walk on the pier. Daily fishing pass $6; Weekly fishing pass $30; Yearly fishing pass $75; Locals daily pass $3. Rod rental requires pass plus $6 rental fee and $20 refundable deposit. Fishing permits included. The Pier at Garden City, Free to walk on the pier; Fishing pass $8, children $4; Weekly fishing pass $40; Season pass available, Fishing rod rentals $8 plus a $15 deposit. 6AM-9PM or 11PM during summer season. Second Avenue Pier, This pier is the beginning of the new Myrttle Beach Boardwalk, which opened in 2010. Walking fee: $1. Fishing pass $8; Rod rental $9.65, plus $10 deposit for gear; Bait $5. Springmaid Pier, $1 walking fee is free if you stay at Springmaid. Fishing pass $6; Fishing rod rental $8.50 (discount, if staying at Springmaid). Fishing permits included in your paid admission on Myrtle Beach piers. Fishing tackle and bait, and a yearly fishing pass are available. Hours: 6AM-12AM. Surfside Pier, $1 walking fee. Bottom fishing: $9 daily, $45 weekly, $150 yearly (each fisherman is allowed 2 fishing devices); King fishing: $12.50 daily, $65 weekly, $200 yearly (each fisherman is allowed 2 bottom rods); Rod rentals: $9 plus $30 deposit. Garden City's Best Kept Secret- Last but not least, one of my favorite spots! Photos and directions to a lovely pier, extending into the Marsh. The park is perfect for children. Enjoy the picnic area and the pier for crabbing. It's free.
