There's plenty of family fun to be had in Myrtle Beach, and Halloween is no exception. There are lots of great places to take your little ones trick-or-treating. But lots of other fun kids’ activities are on tap this Halloween as well, from kid-friendly “haunted” houses to fun fall events to costume parties for the whole family. Here's a roundup:
Boo! It's the Howl-O-Scream! The North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex will become North Myrtle Beach's favorite “haunt” on Saturday, Oct. 25 for this all-ages event. Free to the public, this event takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. The city's Parks and Recreation Department partners with Coastal Carolina University's Recreation Management class to convert the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex into a Halloween venue for hay rides, pumpkin painting, marshmallow roasting, trick-or-treating and more. Unique to this event are the “scare” and “scare-free” zones, so no matter the age of your child, they are sure to have fun. Check the recreation hotline at 843-280-5570, ext. 1, for weather updates — a rain date for this event will be Sunday, October 26.
Huntington Beach State Park will be the scene of a haunted castle adventure from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and Oct. 25. Huntington’s Haunted Halloween will take place at the Atalaya Castle, an attraction in and of itself that will be transformed into the scene of frightful family fun. Atalaya Castle, located within the state park, was built in the early 1930s as the winter home of industrialist and philanthropist Archer Huntington and his wife. But for Halloween, it becomes the home of two separate haunted house attractions, carnival games, children’s crafts, spooky cartoons on the big screen, s'mores, a bonfire, storytelling, and more. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children 6-15, free for children 5 and younger. Park admission is waived for the event. (Park officials warn that some features of the haunted houses may be scary for young souls, so parents beware.)
Barefoot Landing has several Halloween events planned for kids. First up, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 will be a Kids' Halloween Fun Day. Kids and pets are invited to dress up in their favorite costumes for a costume contest. Assemble near the carousel — the kids' costume contest begins at 1 p.m., followed by the pets' contest. The event will also feature entertainment, kids' karaoke, free carousel rides and prizes. Then, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Halloween night, Barefoot Landing hosts a fun and safe trick-or-treating event. Kids and parents are invited to dress up and wander around to collect treats, prizes and candy from merchants, restaurateurs and more. Barefoot Landing is a large shopping complex located next to the Intracoastal Waterway in North Myrtle Beach. With 100 stores and restaurants on all sides of a small lake, plus several attractions, Barefoot Landing will keep your little ones hopping on Halloween.
More trick-or-treating! The annual Broadway at the Beach Trick-or-Treat will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Halloween, Friday, Oct. 31. Participating merchants at Broadway at the Beach, a premiere shopping and dining destination in Myrtle Beach, will be handing out tons of goodies and treats for children in costume at this fun and safe all-ages event.
The annual trick-or-treating and costume parade is all set for Halloween at the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk. Halloween on the Marshwalk begins at 5 p.m. on Halloween. There's a kids' costume parade and contest with prizes, plus trick-or-treating. There will be prizes for the scariest, most creative, and funniest costumes. (Later in the evening, adults can compete for best costume.) The Murrells Inlet Marshwalk is a stretch of docks along the salt marshes on the south end of the Grand Strand.
