One of the reasons Myrtle Beach has so long been a top vacation destination for families is the profusion of fun things to do while you’re here. Of course there’s the miles and miles of gorgeous beaches, and if you stay at a resort like Paradise Resort, you also have your choice of outdoor and indoor pools, but there’s also plenty to do if you do decide to leave the resort! Myrtle Beach has plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment, and a perennial favorite is Family Kingdom amusement park and its water park, Splashes.

At Family Kingdom, you and your family can take your pick of more than 30 different rides, including new rides that opened in 2013, such as the Twist ‘n Shout steel rollercoaster for truly hair-raising thrills. There are also traditional favorites, including the classic wooden roller coaster that originally opened in 1966, the Swamp Fox, named for the nickname given to the South Carolina Revolutionary war hero Francis Marion.

Family Kingdom is just a great place for classic family fun, from the stomach-dropping thrill rides such as the Hurricane, the Log Flume and the Scrambler, to mellower family rides, including bumper boats and antique cars. And there are options for the littler members of your troupe, including mini bumper cars and the new Frog Hopper. Of course, there’s also the perennial favorites: Go Karts.

Family Kingdom also operates an oceanfront water park, newly-christened Splashes. Splashes has the big water slides, long lazy river, and kiddie play areas that will keep the whole family cool and entertained.

There is no charge for admission to the parks, only for rides, which is great for families where not every member wants to ride. You can purchase an amusement park and water park combo pass for all day rides for $36—the passes can both be used on the same day or on separate days. The amusement park pass is $25.95 for unlimited rides and $18.95 for splashes. Individual ride tickets can also be purchased for $1.15, with the cost for rides ranging from two to five tickets per ride.

And best yet, Myrtle Beach Family Kingdom is just down the road from Paradise Resort, less than a 5-minute drive! So keep it on your list of possibilities for fun and entertainment next time you visit our Myrtle Beach resort.
