With nearly 80 championship golf courses within a 60-mile radius, Myrtle Beach is deserving of the nickname “GolfTown USA”. Golfers from all over the nation and world come to the Grand Strand just to chase the little white ball, and the fall golf season can be one of the busiest times of year to try to book a tee time.

But for casual golfers with families in tow, there's an affordable alternative to let the entire family take a swing at the game while also experiencing a little taste of Myrtle Beach golf. Rather than wasting everyone's time by taking beginners to a busy course with serious golfers, why not take your crew out for a round or two at a local Par-3, a driving range, or even miniature golf? Here are some of the best places for families to sample a small slice of golf on the Grand Strand:

Cane Patch Par-3 Golf Course: Located just a few miles south of North Beach, this popular golf facility is the perfect place to work on your game before going to a regulation course. Featuring 18 holes measuring in the 100-yard range, golfers can practice their mid-range irons, chipping and putting while newcomers to the game can work on the basics without holding up more experienced players. The entire layout is lit to allow for night play, and the driving range, and putting green provide plenty of practice time to hone your swing. Free club rentals are available and a family package makes it even more affordable for a family foursome or more. Cane Patch is situated amid a row of restaurants and shops so you can make a night of it by playing a little golf and going out for the night. Also, Jungle Safari Miniature Golf is just a couple of blocks away so the little ones can enjoy the game too.

Harbour View Par-3 Golf Course: Located between North Myrtle Beach and Little River, this Par-3 offers plenty of golf fun for the whole family in one spot. The course is surprisingly well lit and maintained for a Par-3, and there are sand bunkers and other hazards to give patrons a real golf experience. Harbour View's driving range and practice green are rated among the top 50 in America, featuring turf hitting areas as well as the practice mats. For some pure family fun, Tribal Island Miniature Golf Course offers a good time in a tropical setting.

Midway Par-3 Golf Course: This 27-hole golf facility on the south end of Myrtle Beach provides an ideal environment for beginners looking to learn the game, as well as experienced players in need of refining their swings. Featuring wide-open fairways and moderate distances, players can focus on improving their games rather than searching for their golf balls in the woods or water hazards. The driving range and practice greens are well lit for night play, and everyone in the family can take part in pounding a bucket of balls or sinking a few putts. Patrons get free club rentals, and Midway offers a family package that offers a $50 savings on 10 rounds or 10 buckets of balls. Shipwreck Island Miniature Golf is located on the premises to add a little fun to the game, and Market Common is right around the corner so families can enjoy some entertainment, shopping and dining during the outing.

Tupelo Bay Par-3 Golf Course: Located on the South Strand, Tupelo Bay offers a wide selection of golf activities for the entire family. The Par-3 layout features holes ranging from 73 to 105 yards, ideal for working on your short game or for beginners to learn how to play. Tupelo Bay recently added new lighting and enlarged the cup to a larger 8-inch format, making it easier for high-handicappers to hole out. Sand bunkers and water hazards come into play for a more realistic experience, and club rental is available. Tupelo Bay also offers two unique versions of golf – Disc Golf for those who prefer to play with Frisbees, and foot golf for soccer players to try their hand, or foot, at the sport. Mutiny Bay Miniature Golf is also located on the premises.
