While white-sand beaches and comfortable temperatures may not be the first things that spring to mind when most of us think of the holidays, they’re both waiting on the Grand Strand for anyone looking to escape the cold and snow back home. The Myrtle Beach area offers the perfect way to escape the winter weather without missing out on the holiday cheer. When you visit, you can leave the snow shovel and heavy winter coat behind. Just pack a couple of light sweaters – and maybe even a pair of shorts – and make The Cottages at North Beach Plantation your home for the holidays.

The Cottages at North Beach Plantation offer a range of accommodations and a wealth of amenities to make your family’s holiday vacation a memorable one. And while you’re staying with us, you can use your smartphone to participate in our special Holiday Hunt. Explore all the fun seasonal festivities the Grand Strand has to offer, capture some special moments, and share them with us on Instagram. In all your photos, be sure and tag @northbeachnmbc and use the hashtag #NBCottagesHolidayHunt and share for all of your friends and family to see.

Begin your Holiday Hunt by writing a giant holiday message on the beach – something like “Merry Christmas from the Andersons!” Get as creative as you want – shells and seaweed are encouraged, too – and be sure to make your message big enough for Santa to see from high in the sky as he flies over in his sleigh. Once you’ve completed your merry masterpiece, post a photo of it on the ’Gram.

Up next on the Holiday Hunt to-do list is a photo with Santa. Before gearing up for his globe-hopping journey, he’ll be enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the Myrtle Beach area. While you stay at The Cottages at North Beach Plantation, you’ll have a few photo ops. Kris Kringle himself will be making several appearances at Santa’s Village at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex through December 31st.

As the holidays draw near, the Grand Strand is transformed into a (warmer) winter wonderland with lots of festive decorations. Visit one of the Myrtle Beach area’s winter festivals or holiday displays and snap a photo with your favorite holiday lights. A great option for crossing this one off the list can be found at Brookgreen Gardens, where the extravagant Nights of a Thousand Candles runs through December 17th and features more than 5,000 hand-lit candles, plus support from strands of twinkling lights. Or, you could drive through the dazzling Great Christmas Light Show, located a short drive from The Cottages at North Beach Plantation at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex. This experience features over 500 magical light displays, some up to 55 feet tall, as well as a section of lights synchronized with holiday music. You can take it all in through December 31st.

While you’re enjoying all the Christmas lights, there’s a good chance a magnificent Christmas tree can be found nearby. Find an ornament on the tree that catches your eye, and take a photo of it. Be careful not to knock it off its perch – just get close enough to get the perfect pic for the Holiday Hunt.

The final photo you’ll need to complete your Holiday Hunt is the most special. We’d like to encourage you to take a family photo suitable for your holiday greeting card. You could pose in front of a memorable Grand Strand landmark, gather on the beach just before sunset, or find a backdrop that’s special to your family – the choice is yours! Wherever you choose to take the photo, years from now, you’ll look at it and remember all the wonderful times you had on the Grand Strand.

We hope you enjoy your time in the Myrtle Beach area and the adventure of completing our Holiday Hunt. Make sure you post all your photos to Instagram and tag @northbeachnmbc  – and don’t forget to include #NBCottagesHolidayHunt in the caption. Thanks for playing along and for spending the holidays with us at The Cottages at North Beach Plantation!
