Myrtle Beach is chock full of special shows that will tickle your holiday fancy. From traditional Christmas songs to legendary performers to Christmas comedy that will have you in stitches, you'll find a Christmas show that will be the icing on your holiday vacation cake.
Alabama Theatre
Alabama Theatre in North Myrtle Beach's Barefoot Landing puts on a holiday spectacular with “The South's Grandest Christmas Show.” This award-winning production combines amazing talent, scenery and special effects for a holiday musical that will put you in the season's spirit.
“The South's Grandest Christmas Show” features traditional Christmas classics and contemporary holiday favorites. It's a family tradition for many who live in or visit the Grand Strand, and audiences return year after year.
This year's show will also feature comedian Ricky Mokel, who always puts a new twist on the Christmas season. So, if you want to celebrate Christmas with an evening filled with song, dance and laughter, the Alabama Theatre is the place you want to be with your family and friends. The show runs through Dec. 31.
Pirate's Voyage
Arg! It's Christmas at Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show. This journey through time and tradition retells the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol” as told by Dolly Parton with a pirate spin.
First Mate Cratchet encourages Captain Scrooge to celebrate Christmas, but curmudgeonly Captain Scrooge is visited by three Christmas spirits, as in the classic tale.
An awe-inspiring live Nativity scene, with live animals and heart-warming songs, highlights the performance, which also includes Joseph leading Mary on a donkey, Baby Jesus in the manger, three kings on camels, angels and more.
“Christmas at Pirates Voyage is an unforgettable adventure celebrating all of the things that make the holidays special,” says director of marketing Larry McCoy. “From toys that come to life, to the living nativity scene, treasure chests and giant Christmas trees, and our all-new aerial and acrobatic acts this show will give you memories to last a lifetime.”
The show runs through Jan. 3 and includes a four-course feast and admission to the interactive Pirates Treasure.
Carolina Opry
For the 29th consecutive year, the Carolina Opry presents its Christmas special, “The Christmas Show of the South.”
The 2014 Christmas show is a family experience you won't soon forget, combining new talent with acclaimed rotating artists into a show full of tradition, beauty and warmth.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am to present this Christmas Show. It has a proud tradition to uphold and this year’s production is so good—it’s kind of like the angel on top of the tree,” says owner, producer, and entertainer Calvin Gilmore.
This year's show includes a holiday brass section and several new or returning vocalists: Bibis Ellison, Rocky Fretz, and Colton Cason. “All That,” stars of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” will offer amazing dance numbers. Plus, there's the award-winning cast of more than 35. The show runs through Jan. 3.
Living Legends
Myrtle Beach's Living Legends in Concert presents Christmas with the Rat Pack through Dec. 31.
Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack, with special guest Marilyn Monroe, will perform favorite holiday classics, hits from the era and more during this nostalgic special show. This is an all-new production, and the first Christmas-themed tribute to the Rat Pack to be staged. Christmas classics will includes songs like “The Christmas Song,” “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus,” “Silent Night,” “Mary’s Boy Child” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Audience interaction will also be part of the show, including sing-a-longs!
Palace Theatre
The Palace Theatre in Myrtle Beach's spectacular Broadway at the Beach complex presents “Jersey Nights Christmas Special” through Dec. 20. The show will highlight the best songs of the beloved Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, plus plenty of holiday classics to get you in the Christmas spirit. Dancers, Christmas sets and falling snow will round out the performance.
The Palace also presents “The Nutcracker” ballet through Dec. 22, so don't forget that holiday classic if dance is more your thing.
