A Six Package of Shopping Opportunities in North Myrtle Beach

Among the many things guests’ love about staying at North Beach Plantation is the abundance of on-site amenities. You can hit the beach or pool deck within steps of the towers, get in a workout or have a massage at the Cinzia Spa, and have a drink at the swim-up bar or an excellent dinner at 21 Main – all without leaving the property.

Shopping is one of the few activities that require leaving the premises, but North Beach Plantation is conveniently located near several major shopping centers, malls and outlets in the North Myrtle Beach area. So get your shopping shoes on (or go shopping for new ones) at these six hot spots for bargain hunters in North Myrtle Beach:

* Barefoot Landing: Conveniently located right across Highway 17 from North Beach Plantation, this 35-acre multiplex offers great entertainment, dining, nightlife and, most of all, shopping. National chain stores and local boutiques line a boardwalk that borders Barefoot Lake and the Intracoastal Waterway, and street entertainers lead a parade around the walkway each summer night before sunset to add some excitement to the shopping scene.

* Champions Crossing: This brand new shopping center is rapidly expanding and represents the first significant retail development on the inland side of the Intracoastal Waterway. Located across from the recently opened North Myrtle Beach Sports and Recreation Complex, Champions Crossing has national and regional stores and lots of dining options to accommodate hungry sports teams and a growing community on the west side of the Waterway. Less than half of the stores planned for the development have already opened, as the spring and summer of 2015 are the dates scheduled for many grand openings.

* Coastal North Town Center: Opened in the fall of 2014, this new shopping district brings several new national chain outlets and big-box shops to the previously underserved north end of town. Coastal North Town Center has the only Hobby Lobby and Publix on the entire Grand Strand, and the Dick's Sporting Goods outlet is a superstore catering to popular local sports like golf, kayaking, paddleboarding and fishing. More stores are scheduled to open in this development in 2015 and beyond.

* Main Street: Forget all the cookie-cutter malls and shopping centers and try an old-fashioned shopping spree in downtown North Myrtle Beach. The six-block stretch from the Horseshoe to Highway 17 offers some small local shops that line the street and carry merchandise you won’t find anywhere else. Beachwear stores, jewelry shops, clothing stores and antique shops are among the many independent outlets that line the sidewalks along Main Street.

* Myrtle Beach Mall: Contrary to the title, the Myrtle Beach Mall is not in the Myrtle Beach city limits, but rather in Briarcliffe Acres, which is a short distance south of North Beach Plantation. This mall has undergone major renovations and expansion, including the additions of new stores and a movie theater, and is now beginning Phase 2 of the project. In addition to having national and regional anchor stores, Myrtle Beach Mall is home to the Strand's only Bass Pro Shop.

* Tanger Outlet Stores: Located just south of Myrtle Beach Mall is another major shopping district filled with dozens of shops. Featuring all the national name brand outlets plus some local and regional mom-and-pop shops, the Tanger complex is situated on Kings Road just off Highway 17. A Wal-Mart and other major stores surround the area, and there’s a direct access road to the Myrtle Beach Mall without getting on the highway. There is a second Tanger center on Highway 501 in the Carolina Forest section of Myrtle Beach.
