WonderWorks Brings Weird Science to Broadway at the Beach

If the upside down WonderWorks building looks like the result of a bad lab experiment, that’s because it is. At least that’s the premise of this Broadway at the Beach attraction that injects some weird science and oddball activities into a family fun encounter.

Towering over the Broadway skyline is the ground floor of this science laboratory, where a failed science experiment exploded and dropped the building on its roof on top of a seafood shack. The result is an attraction filled with more than 100 wacky exhibits and interactive displays that boggle the mind and excite the imagination.

Best of all, guests at Long Bay are already one step of the way there just by checking in. Included in your Splash Pass packet you receive upon your arrival is one free ticket to WonderWorks, as well as other popular attractions, such as Ripley’s Aquarium and Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament. Use your freebie to let one member of your party check it out, or spread the savings across the whole group for an affordable day of family fun.

See exhibits that provide a unique and informative perspective on various aspects of science and nature, from space travel and feats of engineering to natural disasters and the marvels of Mother Nature. WonderWorks puts the principles of science to the test and puts them on display for a hands-on learning experience that also results in fun. Shhh, don’t tell the kids that these experiments in gravity and the laws of motion are also an educational experience or they might ride the 360 bike ride and the 6D Extreme Motion Machine just for the fun of it.

And there is plenty of fun to go around this three-story attraction, which offers something interesting around every corner. Guests can test their athletic skills against the pros, experience the thrill of going through a Category 5 hurricane, climb through a tangled ropes course, construct their own giant air pockets in the Bubble Lab, challenge one another in an intense game of Mind Ball, play a song with their feet by jumping up and down on the keys of the Giant Piano and stomp virtual aliens – all under one roof, uh, basement floor.

It’s just a sampling of the bizarre yet entertaining activities that will captivate even the youngest and oldest members of your party. From the young to the young at heart, your family will find plenty to explore at WonderWorks. Visit the Imagination Lab and the Space Discovery labs to see some mind-blowing exhibits. Keep your cell phone handy to snap some hilarious photos and some strange selfies that your family will treasure for years after your visit.

For all the brain games featured at WonderWorks, the top floor (technically the bottom) is the place for some physical and mental activity. The ropes course lets guests don a safety harness before scaling the web of ropes and ladder that hang from the ceiling, and the laser tag room has plenty of space to run and shoot. For a bigger challenge, try the adjoining Soar + Explore zip line offers some outdoor fun as well. Soar over Lake Broadway on a harness and get a bird's eye view of the Broadway at the Beach complex from high on a wire.

Be sure to visit the souvenir shop and the snack bar, which features outdoor seating overlooking the lake. It’s a great place to ingest some pizza while digesting all the madness you just witnessed inside. WonderWorks is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
