Where to Shop for the Holidays South of Myrtle Beach

Attention all visitors to the Grand Strand for the holidays: Do not — we repeat — do not bring gifts from home.

Why?

Because we’ve got you covered.

The communities south of Myrtle Beach — think Pawleys Island and Murrells Inlet-area — have an abundance of unique, locally owned shops that will cover all your gift-giving needs. Read on.

For the kids: The Freckled Frog in the Hammock Shops Village in Pawleys is one of those spots where we could get lost for hours. Original toys, fun games, puzzles and more fill the shelves, and what’s better is so much of it is stuff you can’t find at your big box stores. Hannah B’s in Murrells Inlet is the cutest spot for kids clothes and accessories. And for those on hunt for the perfect holiday outfit for your girl? Smocked dresses for days, people!

For the fashionista: Run, do not walk, to Millie’s in Pawleys Island. Looking for the perfect, sparkly fit-and-flare skirt for holiday parties? Nailed it. On then hunt for that must-have druzy pendant? Nailed it. Need a sleek, fashion-forward clutch? Nai— you get the idea. Wait a second, we’re supposed to be shopping for others? Hmm… well, this is a two-birds-one-stone spot if we’ve ever seen one. Haute Hanger is another go-to for on-trend looks and jewelry that you won’t see coming and going like you do with the mall wares. We’re loving their boho tunics worn with a fringed pendant. Instant outfit, just add you… we mean, your gift recipient of choice (ahem).

For the foodie: Please, tell us: is there anything on earth better than receiving a stocked gift basket? Full of foodstuffs and snacks and gourmet goodies? Well, Carolina Gourmet at the Hammock Shops knows that and does a brisk business designing and shipping baskets wherever you need them to go. We won’t judge if you walk away with one for yourself. You don’t have to go far to reach High Country Olive Oil and we love this place for gifts. No self-respecting home cook can go more than a meal without using this staple, and you will find some delicious, rare and truly worth-it varieties from all around the world.

For the impossible-to-shop-for: This umbrella usually includes most men, since buying yet another pair of socks doesn’t exactly scream, “You mean the world to me.” What does? A hammock. Head over to the eponymous Original Hammock Shop to pick out the item for which this whole shopping mecca was built. Trick it out with pillows and accessories (drink holder, anyone?) and make someone very happy. Another cool option is the nearby Audubon Shop and Gallery for a birdhouse, feeder or book. Perhaps it’s not a two-legged loved one you’re shopping for, but someone a little, um, hairier. Lulu’s Paw Boutique has all sorts of fun accessories and wearables for your pooch (and feline) as well as some items their humans can enjoy.

And if that won’t do it? You can always get those socks at Belk.

(OK, full disclosure, we love Belk and can get a ton of great stuff there for everyone. But we have to give the most love to our local stores.)

What else can you find at the Hammock Shops Village? Oh, so much. And of course, Inlet Square Mall.

And what about you? Where do you like to shop for holiday gifts south of Myrtle Beach?
