Where to Find Healthy and Tasty Super Bowl Party Eats and Treats

Super Bowl parties have become as much about food and drinks as the game itself. During a three-hour football game and endless commercials, Americans consume insane amounts of the least healthy food on the planet, washed down by mass quantities of beer and soda. Ironic that a celebration that revolves around an athletic event has become a display of gluttony on greasy, cheesy foods.

It doesn't have to be that way, especially with the explosion in healthy dining options that have sprung up on the Grand Strand in recent years. Go out to a restaurant or bar that offers less traditional yet more nutritional dishes, or enjoy the big game on-site in your room or cottage at North Beach Plantation. You don't have to serve pizza, hot dogs and chicken wings to throw a proper Super Bowl party. Check out these restaurants and stores for a healthy and tasty Super Bowl feast:

  • Bay Naturals: Featuring locations in both Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, this locally owned and operated health food shop and grill delivers fresh produce and some tasty soups, salads, sandwiches and more. Grill items ideal for a Super Bowl spread include their famous FBLT (that's “Fakin” Bacon” Lettuce & Tomato), Spinach and Cheese Quesadillas, Housemade Pimento Cheese Spread, Hummus & Veggie Wraps, Veggie Burgers and a big bowl of Vegetarian Chili. The North Myrtle Beach store is at Gator Hole while the Myrtle Beach location is at Northwoods Plaza.

  • Clean Eatz: Also located at Northwoods Plaza, this regional chain brings fast food out of the deep fryer and into the health age. Offering wraps, flatbreads, sandwiches and salads that are less than 500 calories per serving, Clean Eatz provides healthy alternatives without giving up the flavor. The Buffalo Chicken Wrap, Skinny Burger (a bison patty with all the veggies) and Big Boy Wrap are perfect for filling up football fans. Clean Eatz also serves prepared dishes, such as Cilantro Lime Chicken and Vegetarian Chili, to hit the Super Bowl spot.

  • The Fresh Market: Located in the same Northwoods Plaza shopping center is this regional grocery chain focusing on fresh, local produce. Fresh Market has everything you need to try out a few healthy recipes in your fully furnished kitchen, or to pick up some prepared dishes and platters from the full-service deli. Serving a wide variety of Paninis, flatbreads, sushi, sandwiches and more, The Fresh Market also makes special Super Bowl party trays of fruit, veggies and cheeses. Another Northwoods Plaza neighbor, Edible Arrangements, offers fresh fruit in the form of floral bouquets that are ideal for a Super Bowl bash.

  • Publix: This national grocery chain is new to the Grand Strand, with the first local store opening at Coastal Northtown Center in North Myrtle Beach. In addition to offering all your grocery needs, Publix puts out a spread for the Super Bowl with a wide selection of snacks and dishes that include low-calorie, low-fat and low-carb items. Featuring lean-meat deli platters, fruit and veggie trays, and made to order sandwiches, Publix is a great place to pick up everything you need for both healthy and traditional Super Bowl foods for those who want to offer guests plenty of options.

Of course, North Beach guests can also enjoy healthy treats without even leaving the resort property. The on-site 21 Main Steakhouse and Sushi Bar will be serving its regular menu on Super Bowl Sunday, including the fresh-made sushi rolls, tasty steaks, and soups and salads. No matter what your taste buds crave, North Beach Plantation is a great place to hold your Big Game party.
