The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is one of the Grand Strand's hottest spots for hitting the beach and the downtown district. But the 1.2-mile walkway has also become a major thoroughfare for some of the best oceanfront restaurants in Myrtle Beach.

Stretching from 14th Avenue North to Second Avenue South, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk has breathed new life into the downtown dining scene. The addition of several new eateries along with renewed interest in some old ones have transformed the Boardwalk into a hub for great dining with an ocean view. Here are three restaurants you won't want to miss during your trip to the Boardwalk:

1) Bandito's Cantina: Located on the north end of the Boardwalk, Bandito's brings a taste of Mexican and Caribbean cuisine to the Carolina coast. The two-story, Spanish castle-style building features a spacious back porch and courtyard overlooking the beach and marking the beginning of the Boardwalk. Patrons sit out on the open-air terrace and enjoy frozen drinks and unique menu offerings. Bandito's offers a wide array of starters, like fresh nachos with all the toppings. Lunch favorites include fish tacos and Cuban sandwich, and top dinner options are the steak fajitas and jerked chicken. Bandito's also serves fresh seafood specials and unique tropical cocktails. Live music plays on the outdoor stage during happy hour and the weekend.

2) Peaches Corner Cafe: This downtown establishment has been serving hot food and cold milkshakes to hungry visitors since 1936. Still serving the same lunch-counter style food that made it famous, Peaches Corner is all about juicy burgers, hot dogs topped with all the fixings and thick shakes that cool beachgoers down from the inside. Located in the central section of the Boardwalk near Plyler Park and the Promenade, Peaches Corner is a great place to take a break from the beach or a long day of shopping on the Boardwalk.

3) Pier House Restaurant and Rooftop Bar: The last stop on the culinary tour de Boardwalk is a new and improved version of a historic landmark. The Second Avenue Pier has been in place since 1936, but the landmark recently updated its restaurant and added a open-air deck that offers a stiff ocean breeze and a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. Serving fresh seafood dishes and a full bar, the Pier House welcomes a nice happy hour crowd to watch sunset paint the sky an array of colors. The restaurant features full breakfast, lunch and dinner menus and huge pane-glass windows that allow for spectacular views from any angle, and the rooftop bar serves a select menu of appetizers and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere of patio furniture and umbrellas.
