This is always an exciting time of year for football fans as the NFL Playoffs and college football bowl games get under way, but never has the Grand Strand been this fired up for some pigskin. Not only is the home team, the Carolina Panthers, making a run for the best record and No. 1 playoff seed, but in-state school and No. 1-ranked Clemson is going for its first national championship since 1981. Needless to say, local folks will be out in force to support their home teams.

That's just one more reason to go out and enjoy all the action with fellow football fans. No matter what team you cheer for, you will not be alone as you venture out to area sports bars and watering holes to root for your favorite team. Because the Myrtle Beach area is home to vacationers and transplants from all over the country, all teams are well represented with a loyal fan base. Go out to some of these sports bars, join in the fun and get ready for some football:

Back Porch Sports Bar: Guests can sit outside on the patio deck overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway on one side while also catching the games on the big-screen on the other. Lots of games and TVs make this a small but fun place to catch all the action, and you can take a break to play some cornhole outside or some billiards inside at this Restaurant Row establishment.

Broadway Louie's: Located at Broadway at the Beach's Celebrity Square, this sports bar and arcade is the largest on the Grand Strand. Attracting fans of all colors and allegiances, Broadway Louie's is a two-story sports bar with a state of the art viewing section that is decorated like stadium stands. Enjoy beer specials and an extensive food menu and make new friends while you join fellow fans in rooting for your team. If the game isn't going your way, simply stroll to the arcade and try your luck at some virtual competition.

Bully's Sports Pub: The closest sports bar to North Beach is just across Highway 17 at Barefoot Landing. Patrons can play pool, darts and video games while watching the big games. There's even an outdoor patio deck overlooking Broadway Lake that has big-screen TVs and heaters. Order cold draft beers and some hot food for maximum enjoyment. The Bully Burger is big and beefy like a defensive line.

Oscar's: This place serves as the headquarters for Pittsburgh Steelers fans on the Grand Strand. Located a few blocks north on Highway 17, it's hard to miss the black and gold bar, which was painted by regulars after the Steelers' last Super Bowl victory. It looks like it could use another coat this year, so Oscar's will be hopping when Pittsburgh plays. But this is a great place to catch a game regardless of your allegiance thanks to great food, drink specials and friendly folks.

Overtime Sports Cafe: This place is like the Taj Mahal of sports bars on the Grand Strand. The walls are covered by TV screens, including a dozen or so stacked behind the bar for folks who like to keep an eye on all the action. There are so many TVs that there's not a bad seat in the house, so you can belly up to the bar or get a table in the dining room and still see the game you are looking for. The “OT” also has a sports memorabilia museum and an arcade with lots of sports-themed games.

There are lots of great places to watch the games in town, but only one place to stay – North Beach Plantation. No matter how your team fares on the football field, all of our guests are winners.
