America has caught World Cup fever, and the Grand Strand is no different. In fact, with so many different nationalities living in and vacation in Myrtle Beach, there’s a vibrant soccer community supporting the USA and its surprising run through the “Group of Death” to the knockout round.

The US begins its quest for advancing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup bracket in Brazil at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Belgium. The world’s most popular sporting event concludes with the World Cup Final on July 13. Experience the thrill and patriotism of rooting for the red, white and blue with your fellow countrymen at one of the following bars and restaurants on the Grand Strand:

McCann’s Pub & Eatery (The Old Bull and Bush): This Irish pub doesn’t have a true home team to root for since Ireland failed to qualify, so it has become a hot spot of support for the USA. Pre-game parties start well before kick off to get everyone n the right mindset, and fans sing songs and cheer for the Americans to good ol’ USA.

Broadway Louie’s at Broadway at the Beach isn’t exactly a soccer bar, but it becomes one every four years for the World Cup. Fans who normally watch “football” instead of “futbol” change sports to support the home team, and Broadway Louie’s get into the spirit as well with drink specials and more TVs than any other sports bar on the Strand.

Flynn’s Irish Tavern on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach is owned and operated by an Irish family, but they root for their new country at this authentic pub. The bar features is lined with TVs tuned to the World Cup and beer taps that serve rare imports. The outdoor patio deck is like a sports-lovers dream, with lots of TVs and bar games. Soccer is a good excuse to try some of Flynn’s great bar food.

Handley’s Pub & Grub in Carolina Forest is primarily and English pub, but the Brits were eliminated in pool play so now the crowd has converted to the Americans. Handley’s offers daily beer and food specials on game days as well as a wide range of viewing options. Party with the regulars at the bar or watch the games from the dining area or outdoor patio deck.
Dagwood’s Deli and Sports Bar in Surfside Beach is a great place to eat and cheer for the home team. Known for making sandwiches that are taller than your fist, Dagwood’s also piles it on for festivities around the World Cup. Catch all the games and play some too in the game room/arcade.
