Lulu’s Set to Open Barefoot Landing’s New Dockside Village Development
Barefoot Landing is undergoing a major facelift, and the North Myrtle Beach shopping, dining and entertainment complex has chosen a familiar name to serve as the anchor of its new Dockside Village district. As a guest at The Cottages at North Beach Plantation, you will be so close to this new district, you could even walk.
Lucy Buffett's Lulu's, a regional chain of Southern/coastal-themed eateries founded by the sister of the "Son of a Son of a Sailor" himself - singer/entrepreneur Jimmy Buffett - is scheduled to open in the spring of 2018.
"We couldn’t be more thrilled to be bringing some ‘Gumbo Love’ and LuLu’s family lifestyle to Myrtle Beach," said Lulu Buffett, who like her famous brother also doubles and an author and restaurateur. "In keeping with our Gulf Shores (Alabama) and Destin (Florida) coastal atmosphere, our new (North) Myrtle Beach home offers the perfect backdrop for the fun, food and music that is so classically LuLu’s."
The original Lulu's opened in the Buffetts’ hometown of Gulf Shores, serving as a waterfront haven for fresh seafood, live music and good times. That theme has been exported to Destin and now to the Atlantic side on the South Carolina coast. Offering a Southern-inspired menu and a family-friendly venue, Lulu's is a lot more than just a restaurant.
Being constructed next to the existing Greg Norman’s Australian Grille, the 400-seat, 20,000-square-foot facility will feature indoor and outdoor dining areas and bars, but these are only part of the picture. Lulu's also plans to host live music seven nights a week with a stage overlooking a manmade beach area where patrons can play on a rope-climbing course, enjoy a game of cornhole and take part in other fun activities. An arcade and other attractions will create an atmosphere for family fun that matches the fabulous food.
Featuring items from Lucy Buffett's cookbooks, Lulu’s menu offers signature dishes like the Crazy Sista’s Crab Toast and the Pa-menna Cheeseburger, a burger topped with pimento cheese, bacon and fried green tomatoes. A variety of seafood baskets, burgers, sandwiches and salads make up the bulk of the listings, but there is also an extensive allergy-free menu for folks with dietary restrictions.
Of course, it isn't really a Buffett establishment without some liquid refreshments, and "Crazy Sista," as Lucy calls herself, delivers with her own line of frozen concoctions to help you hang on. The Bama Breeze, Jet Ski Killer and house special Bushwhacker are among the specialty drinks, along with a variety of margaritas, rum punches and beers, including Lulu's own namesake brew, Crazy Sista Honey Ale.
Lulu's will serve as the first of many new restaurants, shops and entertainment outlets to open in the Dockside Village district in the coming months.
