Labor Day Weekend Offers an End of Summer Celebration

* Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival: What better way to cap the summer than with a festival featuring good food, drinks, music and dancing? This Sept. 1-2 shindig at the new Horry Georgetown Technical College Conference Center at The Market Common has it all. The 12th Annual Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival welcomes some of the country's top grill masters competing for big prize money and barbecue bragging rights in a Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned championship event. Samples of pulled pork, ribs, chicken wings and more will be available for purchase, along with a wide variety of microbrews at the Craft Beer Garden. Live music and dancing will center around the main stage, while the festival grounds will include arts and crafts vendors, a kids’ carnival, a cornhole tournament, a car show and more. * Coastal Uncorked Food, Wine & Spirits Festival: Pop the cork on a delicious Labor Day weekend at the three-day Coastal Uncorked affair. Scheduled for Sept. 1-3 at Broadway at the Beach, the seventh annual event features a different theme for each day. Friday night features the Chocolate Under the Moon party from 6 to 9 p.m., as local bartenders show off their skills in the Moonshine Mixology Challenge, and Johnny D's Waffles & Bakery puts out a spread of sweet goodies. Saturday's lineup includes the Brews 'N the Beach Craft Beer Event from 4 to 7 p.m., as microbreweries offer their signature beers for tasting. Sunday's Grand Wine Tasting Event serves as the final course, offering a diverse array of wines and Boar's Head meats and cheeses for tasting from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets to each event is $25, or three-day passes are available in advance for $70. * Fireworks: Having a blast on Labor Day weekend is easy for visitors to the Grand Strand, where three different fireworks shows will be held along the coast on Sept. 2 and 3. On Saturday, Sept. 2, at 9:30 p.m., Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach which is just across Highway 17 from our resort, will light up the skies. Broadway at the Beach and the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk on the South Strand will host pyrotechnics displays at 10 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3.

* Water Parks: The Atlantic Ocean may be open year round, but the water parks of Myrtle Beach wrap up their season on Labor Day weekend. Myrtle Waves, South Carolina's largest water park, is open Sept. 2-4 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day, and the water attractions at Wild Water & Wheels in Surfside Beach are open Sept. 2-4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Family Kingdom's Splashes Oceanfront Water Park is open for its final days of the season on Sept. 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
