Rock out on the dock to some of the top local, regional and national musical acts at The Boathouse's annual Summer Concert Series in Myrtle Beach every Sunday.

Located on the Intracoastal Waterway beside the Highway 501 Bridge in Myrtle Beach, The Boathouse attracts big names and even bigger crowds to the outdoor concerts. Fans arrive by land and by boat, with some folks tying off their kayaks, canoes and paddleboards to the dock. But no need to worry about gate-crashers because there is never a cover charge for the Sunday afternoon showcase.

Featuring a wide variety of rock, pop, country, rap and other genres, The Boathouse's backyard stage has hosted such headliners as the Jerry Garcia Band, Marcy Playground, Fuel and Rusted Root, just to name a few. The hillside banks are filled with revelers and, on especially hot Sunday afternoons, some catch the show while floating in the river. Needless to say, casual attire, including bathing suits and flip-flops, is the norm. Visitors are encouraged to come early for bigger shows and bring a beach blanket or lounge chair to get a good seat. All shows begin at 5 p.m., but “Funday Sunday” last well after the sun goes down over the Waterway.

The 2014 schedule is well under way but there are still plenty of opportunities to see some quality shows and experience a great party atmosphere. Upcoming shows include Collie Buddz (July 13), Dangermuffin (July 20), Natty Vibes (July 27) and Little Texas (Aug. 3). The highlight of the summer calendar is JerryFest (Aug. 10), when tribute artists cover classics by the former Grateful Dead frontman. TruSoul (Aug. 17) and Ballyhoo (Aug. 25) are the final announced acts of the summer, but look for upcoming announcements for Labor Day weekend.

The Boathouse also plays host to a country music showcase on Fridays. Known as “Nashville Nights,” The Boathouse’s more intimate indoor stage welcomes some of the rising stars of the country music scene. Austin Mowery is scheduled to rock The Boathouse on July 11, followed by Ricky Young (July 18) and Sam Hunt (July 25). Check the website at www.boathousemb.com for future shows, which begin at 9 p.m.
